What is typeface

A typeface is a family of graphic characters includes many types , sizes and styles . Examples Times New Roman,  Arial,  Calibri,  Algerian.


Font is a collection of characters of a single size and styles belonging to a particular type family. 

Or


Font is a specific typeface of a certain size and style belonging to a type face. Example one font may be Arial 12 pt bold while another may be Times new roman 10pt italics. 

Types of fonts

1. Raster or Bitmap font    2. Vector or scalable font

 A bitmap font is a font with jag edges when they are enlarged.
Task of taking an image described in vector graphics format (shapes) and converting them into Raster images for output , video display , printer or for storage in a bitmap image format.
 

Serf and San Serf

Serf means decorated font while as San serf means without decoration. Serf fonts include:- times New Roman, Book-man, Rockwell light, courier New etc. Sans serf fonts include:- century Gothic, Arial, Comic San, Ms impact etc. 

Ant aliasing

 It is a technique that can be used to eliminate Jag edges . It substitutes additional pixels in other color to fool the brain into thinking it is continuous lines. This technique minimizes the jag edges making for smoother over all appearance
